Year 5 took a trip to Manchester Museum where we learnt how to become creative curators! We learnt about how museums group animals and we practised our curative skills – looking, connecting and discussing.
We enjoyed looking at some of the taxidermy animals up close, learning about how it is done and had a go at creating our own museum! Then we got to explore the museum. There was lots of interesting information in the vivarium. They had live poison dart frogs and plenty of information about our topic – The Rainforest!
Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short and got caught in the rain on the way back though, but despite the weather, we had the best day!

Year 6 History
After learning about how the Ancient Mayans developed and ate food such as corn, sweet potatoes and cocoa, we put our taste buds to the test and sampled it for ourselves.
Year 2 – Outdoor orienteering History lesson.
Year 2 loved orienteering to find out information all about Heaton Hall! The children found in 1772 Heaton Hall was built and this was part of the Georgian Period! Many more facts were found along the way by combining their map reading skills to find the fact cards!
Year 2 Orienteering
This week, Year 2 had to combine their map reading, history and running skills. An orienteering course was marked on a map and the children had to find detailed historical information about Heaton Hall.
Year 6’s Remembrance Service
On Friday, Year 6 visited Blackley Forest for our annual Remembrance service. The children performed famous World War One poems alongside their own, themed around war and remembrance. Members of our local community played The Last Post on the bugle and shared in a two minute silence with us.
We will remember them
Each class created a poppy wreath with special messages to those who gave their life to protect the freedoms that we have today. We hope you get to see our tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Year 2M We Will Remember.
The children enjoyed making their poppy wreath for our classroom door and learning all about being respectful. Edward very kindly brought in his Great Grandad’s medals. The children had lots of questions for Edward about his paratrooper grandad. What an excellent primary source of information Edward, thank you for sharing!
5M Poppy Wreath
We have been learning about Remembrance Day in 5M and the significance of the poppy as the symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. We have created a poppy wreath with special messages to those who have lost their lives fighting for our future.
Year 6 Battle of the Somme
We are going to write an instructional text about trenches in WW1. To hook and enthuse the children, we staged our own Battle of the Somme in the classroom.
