Primrose class had an amazing time at Heaton Park. The park keeper took us on a spring trail, where we met Scarlett the squirrel, who helped us find our way around the park. We looked at park maps, made arrows to follow, and learned all about directions. We also explored the different sounds sticks made when we banged them against various things in the park. The children enjoyed investigating spring, using magnifying glasses to look closely at spring flowers and collecting natural objects to make a bird’s nest. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make our trip so special.

I’ve shared the slides from the session this morning with our parents and carers for those who were unable to attend, so everyone can access the helpful information and support at home.
The next scheduled coffee morning are;
9th June- 9am – Internet Safety
7th July -2.30pm – Mental Health Awareness focus on year 6 transition to high school

This morning, we hosted a coffee morning where we welcomed parents and carers into school for a workshop on children’s mental health, delivered by Healthy Schools. The session gave families an insight into understanding children’s mental health, recognising early signs of difficulty and learning ways to support a child who may be struggling. It also highlighted the importance of looking after their own wellbeing as parents and carers.

Well done to everyone who dressed up for World Book Day! We loved listening to so many favourite stories, and it was brilliant to celebrate together in assembly with our outfit parade.
A big congratulations to our Best Dressed winners and a special shout-out to Hassan from Primrose class, who was our overall winner! 📚✨

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our library session. It was lovely to see so many families there. Please remember to visit your local library and give your child the opportunity to experience the joy of going to the library and developing a love of reading books.

Squirrel class made some beautiful pieces of art based on paintings by the artist Jim Dine.
They designed hearts using pastels and thought about places and people they love and how these places and people make us feel.

During National Storytelling Week the children at Bowker Vale have been reading a selection of brilliant and inspiring picture books. After a class discussion, they then voted for their favourites.
It was inspiring to see so many stories being shared and I loved seeing children excited about reading!
Year 1 chose Bear Shaped by Dawn Coulter-Cruttenden as their favourite. It is a lovely book about a boy who can’t find his favourite teddy. In the end he realises that the most important thing is the memories that he has made with him. We then all talked about our special teddies at home.

Year 2 chose Supertato by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet as their favourite because it is adventurous and makes them laugh!

Year 3 and 4 voted The Night Dragon by Naomi Howarth as their favourite book! They loved the illustrations and the message that everybody is special and important even if they look different.

Year 5 voted for Tuesday by David Wiesner as their favourite book! They commented on how funny and strange the story was and liked that it was mostly illustrations with no words.

Year 6 voted The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad as their favourite book! They liked the theme of pride that the book shared.

In Maple we chose ‘We’re All Wonders’ as our favourite book; a classic but one that always makes us stop and think about how our words may affect others. We then talked about our identities and focused on how our differences contribute to our class in a positive way.

Despite below-freezing temperatures, the mighty Vale were red hot as they defeated Irk Valley in an eight-goal thriller on Tuesday night. Well done team!

The Primrose class has enjoyed the new mud kitchen this week. They have loved making mud pies, potions and overall getting messy:).
