Mrs Bernstein kindly took the time to share how she celebrates Shabbat – a day where Jewish people set aside their weekly concerns and concentrate on what is important. The class discussed how their own religions shared similar practises.

On Friday 24th May, we proudly celebrated Cultural Diversity Day throughout the school. Our amazing Bowker Leaders led an assembly where we talked about what Cultural Diversity Day is and discussed how we will be celebrating this in school. On Friday 24th May, the children rotated around different classes and teachers taught the children about a different culture. The children ended the day by having a ‘Good to be Me’ afternoon, where the children celebrated being themselves! The children also came in to school wearing traditional cultural clothing, or their own clothes. This was a fantastic day! Well done everyone!
Year 2 had a very interesting visit to Central Gurdwara. They spent time in the Prayer Hall learning about the 5K’s and looking at the throne where the Guru Granth Sahib site during the day. They saw the special bedroom and bed where the holy book is placed at night.
They then visited the langar and shared some delicious food!
Year 1 have been learning about Sacred Places as part of their RE this term.
They visited Central Gurdwara in Cheetham Hill. They learned about the 5 K’s and how to recognise someone from the Sikh religion. We looked at the special room where the Guru Granth Sahib is kept and shared some food in the langar.
Children in Year 6 spent an interesting morning at Khizra Mosque in Cheetham Hill as part of their learning in RE
We were welcomed into the main prayer room and we also visited the top floor where we could see the beautiful dome from the inside. We were shown around the washrooms used by Muslims before praying.
We learnt that the name Khizra means green which is the colour of the domecomes from the dome.
We found out about the importance of Ummah in the Islamic faith, how the behaviour and conduct of individuals can affect the whole community and that Muslims believe that it is your duty to help others you if you are able.
Today, year 5 went on a school trip to visit Khizra Mosque as part of our RE curriculum. We learnt a lot about features of a mosque and had an opportunity to ask any questions we might have had.
We are delighted to share with you all that the total money collected from the donations at our Eid Festival was £362.18.
This money is going towards the Khizra Mosque and our families have suggested this will go towards the Communities4all initiative, to help local people of all backgrounds and beliefs. This includes food parcels, activities for adults and children and events such as health checks/talks etc.

Thank you again to all our families for helping us plan and organise such a successful Eid Festival!
Last Thursday, 18th April, we celebrated Eid by hosting an Eid Festival in school, organised by our wonderful families at Bowker Vale and supported by our EDI team. We would like to thank our families for planning and organising such a wonderful event! Everyone had a great time! We can not wait to work alongside our families next year to help us celebrate Eid.
Come and celebrate Eid with us, after school in our hall on Thursday 18th April.
Holi is a Hindu festival that celebrates spring, love, and new life.
Some families hold religious ceremonies, but for many Holi is more a time for fun. It’s a colourful festival, with dancing, singing and throwing of powder paint and coloured water.
Holi is also known as the “festival of colours”.
The Nursery children pretended to throw coloured paints at each other and danced to some traditional Indian music!
