Today, year 6T had their first forest school session this morning and it was a chilly one! We had a special Christmas edition where we had a challenge set by a cheeky elf and celebrated solving the puzzle with hot chocolate and treats. We had SO much fun, thank you Mrs Dobson!

Gunpowder, treason and plot!
This half term in History, Year 5 will be exploring the gunpowder plot. We will be studying the key dates, figures and events as well as the causes and consequences from this failed assassination attempt.
We started our unit by discussing why it is still a significant event which people remember today. Many of us didn’t know the full story of the plot, so we shared the story around a camp fire with biscuits and hot chocolate (yum!). We then learned the famous gunpowder plot poem and performed the poem around the fire.
5A Forest School Fun!
Today we had a wonderful Forest School session led by Mrs Cooke! We went on a scavenger hunt to collect materials to make our very own outdoor art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. We collect leaves, sticks and other items from the ground. Then in teams we planned and created our very own outdoor masterpiece! We were all extremely proud of our work.

1S-Forest School Fire Day!
The children have loved fire day today. They have learned the safety of having a fire and the fun of toasting a marshmallow and waffle. The children yet again loved the freedoms of the forest, playing, exploring and having fun with each other discovering new things. I can’t wait till next week Year 1!

6D’s River Irk science trip
Year 6 were fortunate enough to spend the morning in the forest with Groundwork UK and The Mersey Rivers Trust. The children really enjoyed learning about the flow of the river and all the different animals that live in the forest.
Thank you to Groundwork UK and The Mersey Rivers Trust for a fun and educational morning.
Forest School Rocks!
Here we are using a soil auger – basically a drill for the soil. We dug down to see the humus, top-soil and sub-soil layers. It was amazing to see the different colours and feel the textures as the soil got sandier deeper down. Using magnifying glasses, we examined rocks in the soil and discovered they were mostly made up of grains making them sedimentary. There were a few rocks with crystals inside showing us they were metamorphic or igneous.
