We were really lucky this week that Father Christmas found the time to come and visit us at Bowker Vale! Our children and families had the chance to come and have a hot chocolate and Christmas cookie whilst listening to a story from the big man himself – ‘merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!’

National Numeracy Parental Engagement Project
Yesterday, Years 3 and 4 were joined by some of their parents and carers in classes to start using their family maths scrapbooks, which the National Numeracy charity have kindly provided. All classes worked on their first challenge – dominos – and enjoyed doing working with their families to complete this!
Iain from National Numeracy then arrived at school and held a ‘Help your child love maths!’ workshop for parents and carers in Years 1 – 6 which focussed on supporting children to develop positive attitudes towards maths. All parents and carers who attended were offered access to National Numeracy’s free online learning tool for adults, the National Numeracy Challenge, and were entered into a raffle to win a family hamper, which was won by Antije!
If you were unable to attend, don’t worry! If you are a parent or carer of a child in Reception through to Year 6, you can sign up to receive a free copy of the Family Maths Toolkit to use at home by following this link: https://www.nationalnumeracy.org.uk/free-family-maths-toolkit Here, you will find over 200 ‘everyday maths’ activities for your family to do together. If you would like to improve your own confidence with maths, you may wish to take part in the National Numeracy Challenge, which can be accessed by following this link: www.nationalnumeracy.org.uk/challenge/bvpsaq

Road Safety – Theatre in Education Show
Year 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed a Theatre Show this afternoon, learning all about how to cross roads safely and what to do if there are hazards (including monsters from outer space!) in the way!
Road Safety Week 2023
This week we are taking part in Road Safety Week
Road Safety Week is a big road safety campaign and it happens every year.
We’re going to be talking about road safety all week and this is important because we all use roads and it’s important to talk about what we need to make sure our journeys are safe.
Year 6’s Remembrance Service
On Friday, Year 6 visited Blackley Forest for our annual Remembrance service. The children performed famous World War One poems alongside their own, themed around war and remembrance. Members of our local community played The Last Post on the bugle and shared in a two minute silence with us.
Tesco Donation – Thank you!
Thank you to Tesco Cheetham Hill for your generous donation of £100 to be used to help with some new resources for our Lotus Room. This is very much appreciated! Thank you!
The Lotus Room is a place where children can spend time with a Play Therapist or Therapeutic Support Worker. Children come for many different reasons. They might be feeling worried, or sad, maybe scared or angry. At times children struggle to cope with changes in their life, for example, moving house, new school, family separation etc.
If you feel you would like your child to access some support from the Lotus room staff you can pop in to see us and we will arrange a time for you to discuss any concerns you have. We can also offer advice and support such as parenting advice on things like bedtime routines, setting boundaries, children’s stages of development.
Reporting Hate Crime – Information for Families
We are proud that Bowker Vale is a place of inclusion and safety. We hope that our community feels this way to you all too. Hate crime can come in many different forms and can strike at the heart of communities. With your help, we can tackle those responsible for hate crime and keep our community safe. Greater Manchester Police service is ready to help anyone who has been affected by someone else’s prejudice, ignorance, threat or violence. Find out below how to spot a hate crime, report it, or get help, support and advice – both online and in our community.

A great big THANK YOU!
This morning, we had a Harvest assembly. Miss Jones led us in singing some Harvest songs and Paul from Salford Food Bank talked to us about the impact our donations have on those in need. We would like to say a HUGE thank you to all our children and families for your food bank donations – your generosity is greatly appreciated!
