Year 5 trip to Manchester Museum
We had a fabulous day at Manchester Museum making links with rainforests, Ancient Egypt, animal classification and fossils. Everything was totally engrossing and we recommend a visit – it’s free!

5B’s class charter
5B Forest School
Our last session until next calendar year. Thankfully, after storms and rainy days, the beautiful autumn sun shone on us today.
Solar System model
We modelled the solar system with blue tac, balls, fruit and measured with…toilet roll! The first four planets are relatively close together (within 15 sheets of toilet roll). However, Jupiter was 37 sheets further, Saturn another 44, Uranus add 98 and Neptune needed 100 more! Mind blowing.
Mercury = bean sized
Venus and Earth = grape
Mars = pea sized
Jupiter = football
Saturn = grapefruit
Uranus and Neptune = tennis balls
Phases of the Moon
Learning about phases of the moon for part of our Science topic – Earth and Space.
Addition and subtraction
Here is another knowledge organiser to help you with our current maths work.
Freddy Fit
Year 5 had some target practise last week with Freddy Fit with several competitions to see how many bean bags each team could throw into a bucket. We ended with a really intense workout.
