Visit by Rabbi Walker

Year 1 and 2 have been learning about what it means to be Jewish. We had a visit from Rabbi Daniel Walker from the Heaton Park Shul on Middleton Road. He answered some fantastic questions which the children had prepared.

We learned lots of interesting facts about Judaism for example that scrolls of The Torah , the sacred text which Jewish people believe to be the word of God, are kept inside a synagogue and at home Jewish families use a book containing the words of The Torah. We learned that the message inside a mezuzuh is a reminder to Jewish people about the meaning of their faith.

The children asked about special clothes which some Jewish people wear such as the tallit scarf and the kippah.

Rabbi Walker was very impressed at the children’s knowledge about the Jewish Faith and how carefully and respectfully they listened to him.
