3KT and 3S Home Learning- Monday 16th November

Good morning year 3! We hope that you have all had a lovely weekend. As all of year 3 are now learning from home 3KT and 3S will have the same blog posts each day. However your google meets will be separate and please continue to email all completed work to your individual class emails.

To wake yourselves up we would like you to start the day with some PE with Joe Wicks. Don’t worry your teachers will be taking part too!

Now that you have woken up it is time for English. First we would like you to listen to a fantastic story by the author Oliver Jeffers. As you listen, look carefully at the pictures as there are lots of clues as to who the tree thief could be.

The bear was desperate to win the paper aeroplane competition, so caused lots of confusion in the forest by chopping down trees.

Over the next few days we have therefore decided that year 3 are going to have their very own paper aeroplane competition. We will be making, tinkering and writing some instructions for how to make one.

Your task today is to read my WAGOLL for how to make a paper aeroplane.

We would then like you to find the time conjunctions, adverbs, verbs and nouns that I have used in my set of instructions. You could record the words that you find in a table like below.

In your just in case packs you have some information about what these different types of words are. Below is also a link to a great website, which explains what they are.

Once you have read the WAGOLL and identified different word classes we would like you to have a go at making your own paper aeroplane. You could follow my instructions or try a different design. Don’t forget to tinker with your model too as by changing your folds slightly your plane may travel further.

Once you are happy with your design we would then like you to see how far it can fly. You could email a picture or a video of your test flight.

After English we would like you to complete the dolphin reading comprehension that you have in your just in case packs. Don’t forget we will put the answers on the blog this afternoon.

For your maths challenge we are going to be using expanded column addition to add 2 and 3 digit numbers.

First follow and listen to the Powerpoint below:

Then use the squared paper in your Just In Case packs to answer the must, should and could questions below:

After lunch we have a wellbeing activity for you to complete. Whilst we are learning from home it is really important that we exercise and keep our bodies healthy but also our minds too. We would therefore like you to think carefully about what makes you happy and keeps your heart full. Simply draw a heart shape, cut it into pieces like a jigsaw puzzle and then draw and write on each piece what it is that makes you happy.

We can’t wait to see all of your home learning. Don’t forget to send us a picture of your work throughout the day and if you have any problems or questions then please just email your class.

Have a great day and remember how AMAZING you all are!

Mrs Kershaw, Mrs Rogers, Miss Smith and Mrs Rowley.
